Unfair Treatment at Work

Many employers, maybe most employers, treat their employees unfairly to some degree.  If your employer is unfair I don’t blame you for being frustrated, even angry.

Unless you have an employment contract or a union, employment in Pennsylvania is at will.  That means, among other things, that employers do not have to be fair.  Employers do not have to promote the best qualified candidate.  Employers do not have to treat all workers equally.  Employers do not have to be pleasant, or even reasonable.

Unfair treatment is not always unlawful treatment.  If all we can prove is that your employer is unfair, then your case does not belong in court.

But – there are laws that Pennsylvania employers have to follow, and unfair treatment may also be unlawful treatment.  It is necessary to look closely at the circumstances to see if there are indications of unlawful acts on the part of your employer. You have to learn about employment law basics in order to understand your rights. A good place to start is with my Secret Employee Handbook.  It is free, just click the link and provide the requested information.  If you want a paper copy, call or email my office.
