Help, I’ve Just Been Fired!

Don’t panic.  Getting fired is not the end of the world.  Some of the most successful people in the world have been fired.  I’ve been fired and, looking back, I’m glad – although it hurt at the time.

The most important thing for you to do right now is learn your rights.  The Secret Employee Handbook is a good place to start – click to get a free copy.

Apply for unemployment compensation.  Even if you are not sure if you are eligible, there’s no harm in applying.

Take a few moments and think about the things that happened before you were fired.  Write down what you remember in as much detail as you can – names, dates, exact words if you can.  If you have documents, letters, etc. keep them in a safe place. If you have a valid employment law case, this information will be very important.
